Where I come to blog

The WiFi at home has packed up, meaning it is impossible to blog at home unless I use my phone, and this eats my data very fast. For that reason I have spent a considerable amount of time in the local coffee shop, which actually motivates me more as I am out of the house and doing something. There is something about being in public that stimulates me, I feel a bit more alive with all the chatter around me.

I like this place because A, it is right around the corner from my place and B, the WiFi is good. It also has charger points in good locations in case my laptop runs low on battery and the staff are a little friendlier than some of the places I have been to. On top of this you get a nice little addition of chocolate drops on the spoon, which is a lovely touch even if it does quickly melt to the mug. It looks like they added more this time too. I don’t know what I did to deserve that, maybe they caught me blogging and assumed it is a review. I don’t do reviews and I am no where near big enough to promote a business by advertising their products. I don’t want to be that kind of blog anyway.

So I wanted to give a little insight as to where I type my words, like I said I find blogging much easier out of my home. I also mix it up a little bit to keep me from becoming demotivated, a new spot helps perk me up. I do however have to have a secluded spot, I don’t like the idea of people behind me peering onto the screen and watching me work. I have always been a little self conscious as to what I do, I like the mix of being in a place bursting with life but having a little privacy. I bet it is great fun being a very popular blogger, one that has hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions of fans that like and comment the second the ‘Publish’ button is pressed, but can work completely uninterrupted in the process. That certainly sounds fascinating.

    1. It is certainly easier to type on a bigger keyboard and screen, if I’m with my laptop I will use that everytime. It’s incredible that we are able to carry about mini laptops in the form of phones, so I make the most of that when I am unable to use my laptop. Thank you!

    1. You like the silence! Sometimes I opt for a quitter area, but if I’m home alone I just can’t relax knowing I could be in the outdoors. We are all different however, and I’m glad you shared your opinion so thank you 🙂

    1. The coffee shop is a good place for me to sit down and put out a blog post, although the other 99% of the time on my blog (commenting, liking other blogs etc) is done at work or home also. There isn’t enough time in the day! So I resort to doing some of it at work.

  7. The idea of blogging from a cafe has always been like a little fantasy in my mind. As someone who doesn’t drink coffee however, it’d either have to be a loose leaf tea (paying $4 for a tea bag kills me) or some kind of chocolate beverage.

    At present I blog from home, but I’m very undisciplined about it.

      2. Well I bought one and stayed there for about an hour and a half… Any more than that and I would feel the need to buy another coffee. It was a large, so lasted a while 🙂

  9. I blog with my phone. I like to wander thus it’s convenient to blog with all the photos that I take with it. Plus I take public transport hence time waiting for my train I draft my post 😊

    1. I would say probably 80% of the content on my blog was typed on my phone. Like you said, it’s convenient to blog whilst out and about. Using the time waiting for a train is time well spent!

    1. I’ve been using note, which is then shared across ipad, macbook and desktop.
      Rather handy as I don’t have any hassle to pick up writing where I left off if moving to one of the other bits of tech.
      Then when ready pop it into wordpress and edit there.
      I have a keyboard attached to my ipad which makes it really easy.
      I don’t think it would work trying to write on my phone though. Too small.

      1. Yeah the iPhone is a pain to blog on… But I have developed some mean typing speeds on it so it isn’t all bad!
        Using Note sounds handy if it helps you to be flexible, working on different gadgets whilst keeping the same text. Efficient and organised!! I wish I could say the same…

  12. Unfortunately I’m probably the exact opposite. I feel blogging is a solitary exercise and would much prefer to be in the comforts of home. I like to read outside though, either in a park or a cafe sipping a frappe… 🙂 Happy New Year.

    1. For me, I think being alone without distraction makes me think inward too much… I tend to overthink and get lazy doing so, I don’t type as much in the process. The lack of external distractions means my mind tends to float all over the place and being around people just helps. It sounds strange I’m sure, and I blame certain neurological disorders for that. My brain doesn’t make much sense anyway!

  13. I blog on holidays, when working traveling, and at the local cafe’s around Oak Park, Pascoe Vale, Brunswick. I blog at home.
    For me the main thing is to feel inspired. Sometimes this is at 5am in the morning at home.
    Or any time really when an instant of inspiration hits me. when a phrase pops into my head and I open my laptop or ipad, which ever is close at hand 🙂

    1. That’s probably the best way to be! Jump onto the blog when you feel inspired. Sometimes that inspiration dwindles and it is a great shame to not type the words you were feeling at the time. Cool to know!

  14. I blog on my phone. For some reason, I find the iPhone’s Notes to be comfier than the WordPress editor. Only thing is, this is such a ritual for me—study in my room, get bored, drift, get an idea, pick up the phone and type it out—that my phone has picked up my habits. The minute I get home, Notes is on my suggested apps list. “Based on your location: Home”, justifies my phone!

    1. Haha, phones are soon to know us better than we know ourselves I’m sure! I started using Wordsmith actually, have you heard of that? I don’t use notes but when I started typing a book I felt that was a good app to transfer some of my posts onto.

      1. Haven’t heard of Wordsmith, but I’ll check it out sometime. Now if only there was an app that could translate a million racing thoughts into a blog post in half the time it would take me to type it, I’d spend all my pocket money on it for sure!
        Sadly, no such luck…

  17. My best blog writing efforts (and ALL creative writing) are when I’m surrounded by or have a good view of the stuffs that nature provides. Blue sky. Trees. Birds. Flowers. Breezes. Opens my head in a way nothing else does. If indoors, I’ve got to set up a cozy, cheerful, inspirational space to write, preferably by a window for all the aforementioned reasons. 🙂

    1. It would be much better to write surrounded by nature I would imagine, the four walls of my room cannot compare at all to the great outdoors! There is just something magical about nature, isn’t there? Sadly, Wifi is limited and if I could blog on my laptop out in the open, I would!

      1. Lately, I’ve noticed campgrounds (camping’s my thing) provide wifi. I blogged for the first time from a campsite for Christmas. That was kinda cool. Might do it more often in the future (but not TOO much . . . probably stick to photos and a minor narrative).

  20. I blog in many different places depending on my mood and where I happen to be when the writing strikes me. Sometimes my dining table. Early morning you might find me typing away in bed. On sunny days I might sit outside on my veranda. When I need people around me you’ll find me at a cafe or a library.

    1. I can relate to this, as will a couple of people that have commented here. If the motivation strikes, go for it. There is nothing worse than having an idea to write about but not going through with it! It seems like you make the most of it regardless of where you are, which is great 🙂

  22. Writing in a cafe all by yourself sounds so liberating. I wish I could do that where I live but sadly here mostly girls are discouraged to go alone by themselves in public spaces. I write in my room because I also hate it when people look from behind to your screen when you are working. One just can’t concentrate that way.

      1. I am from Pakistan. It’s a culture thing that women especially young girls are generally discouraged to go to public places alone plus there are safety issues as well because there is always the possibility of getting catcalled or followed by stranger. You kinda became vulnerable and I hate that.

      2. It is a shame that this is the case there. Is safety the primary factor, or is it a religious/cultural part of society seen in other places like Saudi Arabia? I find that many very religious nations have pretty bad records when it comes to equal rights for women and many laws benefit men much more.

      3. It’s a bit of both safety and cultural part of society. Things are better in metropolitan cities but still you always have to be extra careful as a girl here in case when you do go out alone. Well, I believe men generally have more freedom for example Many girls here are not even allowed to work after they are married or even before marriage, their husbands or fathers have a huge role in deciding whether they will work or not and life for uneducated women is much tougher because I have personally seen maids getting beaten by their husbands because they refuse to give them money for gambling or drugs and they can’t really leave their husbands because divorced women aren’t really looked at kindly by society and their husbands provide them a roof at least. I could just go on and on with examples. It’s really unfortunate.

      4. This is a large part of why I blog. It is also one of the experiences I had whilst working in a hotel, one that made me type up one of my first ever posts. I think I will repost it tomorrow. It was a lady that was beaten by husband in a room in the hotel and the man was confused as to why he was stopped by staff. I can link you into it if you like, let me know. It is a conversation that I feel we as a species need to have, for sure.

  23. I blog wherever I find myself. I type on my phone’s notes as well, save it then edit it on WordPress using a bigger device (computer or iPad).
    Where I publish my stuff isn’t really a factor, if I find I wanna write sth somewhere; anywhere really… I just write. But most of the stuff I’ve written so far has been on the comfort of my bed.
    But I haven’t been blogging that long so 🤷🏾‍♀️

  24. I usually have my lap top…on my lap.while sitting on the couch..with the TV on in the background. On the odd occasion I have gone to my favorite cafe where I live and blog there. I love the noise and the view of the bay.

  25. I usually blog at home or on the bus on my phone, on the way to work. I do like coffee shops a lot but I have not blogged there yet. I use to write papers at coffee shops when I was in college. So, Im pretty sure I will love blogging there too. Home can be distracting, which is why it takes me awhile to finish a blog. There is a coffee shop near my apt that I should to. Thanks for this article! It’s nice to know where other people blog.

  29. most of a your posts are a page from your life and I love reading them..sometimes correlating them with my life experiences. I find it easier to write when I am with nature maybe sitting in a park or by a lakeside or when I travelling in train/bus. I easily find my muse there .

    1. Thanks, I am delighted you enjoy to read my posts! A park or lakeside sounds very tranquil, I imagine that it would be easier to come up with ideas there with limited distractions. The train is a much smoother ride for me than a bus, buses make me travel sick! Trains I blog on regularly with my commute to work.
