The term ‘one day’ is a free pass to procrastination. Everytime we declare that we will achieve something one day, or one day visit that certain place we have always wanted to visit, it sounds very much like we are wanting to put the effort in, but not today. ‘One day’ cannot be marked on a calendar. It isn’t a day of the week or a month in the year. It could be anything between tomorrow and the year 2059. When we don’t set a deadline, we cannot fail in our aims. The problem with this is, not failing is different to achieving. It is entirely possible to not fail and not achieve, in fact it is incredibly easy. What takes effort is to not fail and achieve in the process. Effort of course, is not for everyone.
I took a shot of this sunset whilst on a train. I didn’t get it first time, it took a while to get through the metal girders. But thinking of this in reverse, sometimes we get the view everyday and forget that it won’t always be there or that it will be harder to obtain in future. Like everything there is an expiration, and it is easy to take things for granted.
Make choices that will be sooner than ‘one day’ before that big metal girder gets in the way and it isn’t possible!
That ‘big metal girder’ could be a million things.
I must admit however, it makes the clouds around the sun look great here.
I really needed to read something like this, thank you for posting. โค

Very beautiful pictures and very important words. Iโm making some super-scary changes to my life right now that I had been postponing for a year. Itโs scary but itโs kind of beautiful too!

Sorry for delay in replying…busy days! Actually, Iโve just given my notice to leave a job that has made me very frustrated and stressed last year. With it, Iโm also leaving a country (Angola) that has its ups and downs. I have no idea what Iโll be doing after I leave the job (my notice period is 2 months)…Itโs the first time in my life that I donโt know what Iโll be doing… I was always the โgood kidโ, studying, choosing a university abroad, immediately going to do a master degree after the undergraduate, and finally getting a job even before finishing my thesis. I always had a path laid out for me…I was very lucky, but I also never did a step without knowing where it would lead me. So, now, Iโm really stepping out of my comfort zone, but I feel so liberated, just knowing Iโm getting to really choose my future, and even knowing Iโm allowing myself to fail (if I do fail). Donโt know if thatโs too much detail, but Iโve never been good at summing things up ๐

Well if the job has been causing stress and frustration, I think it is a good decision! It isn’t healthy to work under such pressures. Also, leaving your comfort zone is something that is necessary in my opinion to grow as a person and develop new skills, too many people stay in their comfort zones and many (not all, obviously) of those people regret it eventually.
This could be the best decision you have ever made and you could look back and be thankful you made it. It is best to think that way ๐
Good luck!

So weird you wrote about this today! I cracked open the new agenda a friend gave me and found it was centred around goal setting. I had decided not to make New Years resolutions, but today found myself making goals so as not to waste the agenda! We’ll see how I do at being “successful” and not just “not failing”.

Very inspiring. I had just had a conversation with a friend about setting a some deadlines for some things that I am planning to do in the near future. This post gave me an extra boost of encouragement. Thank you. -Jill
